Lets start with communication.  Its the most important element of any relationship.  With good communication lines, data(information) flow smoothly from one generation to the next.

I know the first law of being a guardian is, “This is how I was raised and I turned out ok”.  Well some of us also watched our parents taking care of our grand parents.  Most of us are not our parents primary care giver so our kids visit their grand parents in facilities.  Unacceptable but the norm.  We are a very busy in our later days.  I mean…busy.  As the young say, “Wuteva”.  Lets show them the right way.
